Care of the Unfortunate
Best of Humanity | Care of the Unfortunate
While personal responsibility is a necessary virtue, there are times when this falls short of righting misfortune. Positive thinking and prayer have yet to solve all the world's problems, and compassionate assistance is needed in many situations to provide the most basic chance for success.
No one asks to be born into impoverishment or war-torn lands. Extreme poverty, violence, discrimination, disenfranchisement, serious illness, systemic inequality and the trauma that often results are of such magnitude as to be next to impossible for an individual to face alone.
We cannot correct these injustices without naming them. Where identified, we have a personal responsibility to help as we are able.
